Chef and restaurateur Harlan Goldstein opened his second restaurant in town on Mar 27, a year and eight months after Harlan’s opened in the cavernous IFC Mall location (often booked weeks in advance). For Tuscany on H, he vowed to create one of the town’s finest Italian restaurants in the middle of Lan Kwai Fong. They took cues from the environments of Northern Italy and New York for the design – hence, the warm, rustic interior. "Throughout the design," he says, "designer Elaine Jamieson and I chose quality materials, artwork and lighting to create an environment that’s both visually rich and conveys an image of quality." The same attention to detail applies to the food as well. "Where I will not compromise is on the food quality," he says. "Who we buy our cheese, meat, wine and seafood from is very important to me." Harlan traveled to Tuscany to personally handpick the best ingredients and produce. "I was in Tuscany, Bolgheri, Milan, Piedmont, Alba and Barolo to find small artisan farmers. For the Chianina beef, I went to see the cows in the field, met the farmer who raises them, tasted the meat, negotiated the price and set up the supply chain. The cheeses are from Manto Vecchio, the pork from a pig farm in Bolgheri at the Guado Al Tasso Estate, the wines selected and tasted by myself, and wine aficionado Angelo Gaja also helped pick out certain varietals not found in Hong Kong." As for the skeptics? "Frankly," he says, "I don’t give a damn."
Open noon-2:30pm, 6pm-11pm, Fri-Sat 11:30pm, Sun dinner only.
