There is no central mint; instead, notes are issued by three separate private banks. The Hong Kong dollar is pegged to the US dollar at a rate of approximately US$1 to HK$7.79. Denominations include $10, $20, $50, $100, $500, and $1,000 notes. Coins come in denominations of 10, 20, and 50 cents, and one, two, five and 10 dollars.

Some services, such as foreign exchange-related transactions, are not available at banks one hour before closing.
